In this post, we will look at one of the smallest potential energy producers and this is a micro grid and we will look at the potential benefits and disadvantages of this new technology.
Before we look at micro grids I think it is a good idea to have an understanding of what a grid is.
An energy grid is an interconnected network for delivering electricity from producers to consumers. And it consists of generating stations that produce electric power that travel down high voltage transmission lines from the source to their destination and this is us the consumers.
Energy grids have been around for decades and they enable us to use electricity within our homes. More recently this kind of arrangement has been in a state of flux and you may notice that more people have started to capture solar energy by using solar panels on their homes.
I must admit this type of arrangement is best suited to countries that have a lot of sun.
In the UK are affected by the low-pressure patterns that are with us for most of the year and there are few opportunities to harness the solar energy from the sun.
However, there are a few alternatives and one of which is wind turbines this can be used to harness this and it’s a renewable energy source.
Within the next article, we will look at how we can use these energy sources in our own homes and our homes can use new technology in the form of home energy management systems.
So that we can harness the power of the blockchain together with the energy tariffs to ensure that you benefit by selling your energy to your local grid to ensure that your community benefits from the energy you produced. This is a prime example of a home that has energy efficiency built in to its core from day one.
